The week so far

Taking a few minutes to pen down some random thoughts...

1) crashed a badminton training session. Rusty, but was great.

2) some sec 4 students have matured. They are starting to put in more effort into their studies. That's wonderful news.

3) it's morale-boosting to hear our school winning in sports competitions in the morning. we are winners!

4) still so much work to clear. Trying to prioritise and decide on which to do first, but when you look at mountain high loads you tend to get demoralised. This is the same thing I talk about in class. If you fall behind in your studies, you tend to be demoralised and you panick when you see that you are lagging in so much work and it's human tendency to feel stressed and eventually give up. If you can help it, then don't let yourself fall behind. Some of you have many commitments this time of the year. CCAs, Chingays, projects etc etc, please try your best to cope and juggle all your commitments well. If it means less time for movies, so be it. If you do fall behind (like me), do not give up and press on so that you can catch up with the rest. (ok that wasn't so inspiring but gah, I'm tired now lah)

Ok, gotta go update the long overdue ne blog.

CCA orientation day

Friday concluded a busy week by having a very fun carnival-like type of CCA orientation day. It was great! The music was good. The atmosphere was nice. There were many people.

It was an especially busy day for me as it was my last day in school for a week. I will not be in school next week as I will be on reservist.

So after NCC set up it's uber-cool camo booth, I walked around the school and joined in the 'festivities'! I played some table-tennis, juggled football, met up with past Regenites. The NCC performance was great. The Part Cs have come a long way. I hope they really start to rise up to the occasion and be counted for now. C'mon, Part Cs, NCC needs you!

Then the worst thing of the day happened....

I walked to the basketball court where some of my ex-students were seated. Some of my present students were playing ball. They told me to join in. At first I was like no lah I'm too old already but in the end I did. Hit a lucky jump shot, then a few moments later sprained my right ankle. Argh. I sprained it on Sunday and this time it was worse. Argh. Let's hope my Wolverine-like recovery prowess works again and I get well real soon.

Right now, on this Sat afternoon, I'm setting the common test paper for Sec 1 EL. It's due next week for the HOD to vet through. Probably will be staying home. Not in the right condition to move around. Gotta report to camp Monday morning. RECOVER FAST ARGHHGHG.

Lazy, so will upload pics another time. =p

Facebook and stuff (long post, but do read if free)

Now this entry is about facebook.

If you do not know by now, facebook has taken over the world by storm.

If someone says he or she doesn't have a facebook account, you will probably look at him with a little doubt and be thinking to yourself "aiyoh how can? so outdated?" blah blah blah things like that.

Now I personally have 2 accounts. The first account is of myself, where I have my own circle of friends. The second account is of my profession, where I have students, ex-students, students whom I don't teach but I see in school, students whom I don't teach and I actually have not talked to in real life.

If you ask me why I need 2 accounts, the reason is obvious. I am not comfortable with students knowing about my personal stuff, or read what my friends tag on my wall. Perhaps some day 'graduated' students from the school can add my 'real' account. Some of you have tried, to which I have ignored. Sorry! To the rest who are thinking right now "Who cares?" then ok you don't have to read on lah haha.

Now I have been saying I don't add people on my school's fb account. It's not because I am trying to be high and almighty and proud and snobbish. It's that I respect your privacy. Unless you change your settings, by default, if you add me as a friend, I will have access to ALL your pictures and all your wall posts and tags and things like that. And of course, you can see mine too.

Which means if we are 'facebook friends', I can see what you did for your recent bbq, how you and your friends went shopping and cam-whoring, how you and your gf/bf had a good time at some tourist spot etc etc etc etc.

Therefore I will just let people add me. If you add me it means you are comfortable with having me as your friend, and being able to see all your info. If not, it's ok. I wouldn't take offence.

Another thing is your photo privacy. As you all know, you can set the settings. For example, each picture can be seen by "everyone", "friends only", or "friends of friends". Depending on your settings, it could mean that I can see photos of someone even though I am not a friend of him, but because he's a friend of mine. Do take note.

The next serious thing is about writing bad things, be it about the school, or the teachers, or even your friends. All of you should know that we must behave responsibly and not bad-mouth any one. Some of you are even doing it on MY WALL, which is ridiculously disrespectful to the person you are insulting, to me, and ultimately to yourself.

So anyway, it's been a really awesome time communicating with you all on fb. I feel that it's really good as a way to destress, playing those silly games, chatting about anything under the sun. BUT TAKE NOTE! You must manage your time properly! Don't be a victim of computer addiction.

Such a long post. It's actually embarrassing if you do not know this, and me, being such an old man, is smarter than you in the IT aspect. Do learn.

Also, after this post (which is so damn long but because I type so damn fast it's so damn quick), if you really wish to delete me as a friend, I am perfectly fine. I perfectly understand.
