Of being on course and Awards Day

Very busy, so just a quick update.

1. Will be on a full day course in Unity Sec tomorrow, so I wouldn't be in school the whole day. Relief teachers will be going in with work for you all to do. Kindly finish them and hand in within that period. Don't give them any trouble!

2. Next Awards Day rehearsal is Wednesday 330pm. Half-U.
There is a change in the marching off.
GOH will now march pass, followed by supporting contingents. ALL OF YOU will then march back to your original positions, hentak-kaki together and then stop in tune with the band percussion. Everyone will face the front again and remain still.

After the VIP takes his leave, the RSM will keluar-baris the parade.

We'll practise this on Wednesday.

Eric: Thanks.
Ahjie: Yah, but I think most of the CULPRITS are from NCC. =/
Weilin, Jacqueline, Jun Li: What's the big deal with specs. Argh don't say I look so cute!

Weekend!

End of Term 2 Week 1!

Yesterday:

Simple day. The Secondary One students applauded when they saw me. -_- Why? Specs? Or 'cos they hardly see me in jeans? Anyway thanks! Haha.

Awards Day Rehearsal:
Thanks to all Uniformed groups. Basically the feedback gathered from teachers is that
- GOH not garang-looking enough; tilt weapon not at same angle
- everyone marching not smart enough
- supporting contingent head tilt right not synchronised
- some people were smiling when marching

We'll improve on these aspects. =D
Hope everyone is resting well. What a hot day!
Next Full-dressed rehearsal is on Monday 3.30pm.

Rifle PT:
After that we did a simple and what-I-think-is-a fun version of rifle PT! The teachers even did push ups with all cadets!
And some of the cadets really SABO LOR (correct noun: saboteur), recover also RECOVER SO SLOWLY, so I had to say push up position down and recover and push up position down again, and I also 'suffer' together. Woo! Fun fun!

I HOPE ALL YOUR ARM AND CHEST AND SHOULDER MUSCLES ARE SORE AS THEY SHOULD BE!!!! =p

Next time we'll carry the rifle and run 2.4km. It's gonna be fun, really! =D

Today:
Attending another friend's wedding this evening. Hmm. Lots of ang baos to give away!

Tired. Maybe I'll go take a nap.

Yilin: Wo hao. Ni hao ma. =)

静 : Hi you are the 'guest'? Sorry I'm not sure whose chinese name has 静 in it or if it means anything else, so I still don't know who you are =s Anyway, 真成熟的reply。慢慢等的意思是指那位女生未必 ready for a relationship lor, so 你就慢慢等lor. My pain in the heel goes on and off. Really thanks for your concern. =)

Eric: Aiyah you shuddap lah I know you very pro lah! =p

-------
But I AM happy. =D

Latest update:

HQ NCC will be sending a delegation for jungle training in Brunei.
The selected delegation will comprise of 2 NCC Teacher-Officers and 10 Cadet
Officers/Cadets (Part C and above) to participate in the Jungle Training with
Kadet Tentera Brunei in Brunei from 15 to 25 Jun 09.

I AM GONNA APPLY FOR THIS!

Everyone wish me luck! I 'heard' that in the past not many teachers would want to go, but nonetheless, I am very confident of getting the spot regardless of the number of teacher officers applying. Yeah yeah! =D

Awards Day Rehearsal

Attention all Uniformed Groups,

The full-dress rehearsal is from 330pm-430pm tomorrow.

Pending confirmation, there should be another rehearsal on Monday as well as next Wednesday. The actual Awards Day is on next Friday, 3rd April.

I did not decide on this. Information is just passed down from the top.

We'll work hard and make this a huge success. =)

Been a super busy day!!!!

It's actually not my ankle, but the back of it, i.e. the heel. Sucks.

10mins till my next class. Faster reply some tags.

Shirley: Haha yah correct I like your motto lah!!! Perhaps I should make one and paste BIG BIG on my table (sentence is ungrammatical) too!

Chrismeen: Thanks! I was just moving it. In the morning it's especially painful. =(

Eric: That Jason called me, but my heel hurt + lazy to go down. If they were outside my staff room I would have gone out.

Guest: Hello. 你好。 下次留个名好吗?笔名也好。Well, 幸福靠缘分, 但也要靠自己去争取的。

Happy. 开心。

I had a wonderful day on Tuesday.

I'm trying to be a happier person this term.

HOWEVER, these few days, my right ankle has been hurting and I'm in physical pain and it might show on my face, especially if I'm climbing stairs. That's a legitimate excuse. Don't ask why I look so angry/sad/emo.

Destiny. Do you believe in it?

韦礼安 - 慢慢等

One of my favourite Mandarin songs at the moment:

韦礼安 - 慢慢等

For that mysterious (non-existant?) lady, who will probably not see this.

Meaningful.

Updates

OMG It's WEDNESDAY ALREADY AND I HAVE NOT DONE A SINGLE THING!

Fri-Sunday: NCC Camp
Sunday: Slack.
Monday: Went to school, not very productive, left in the afternoon. Slack.
Tuesday: Slack. 5pm Went Wheelock place Nokia Care centre to repair phone. Found out warantee expired? 老天你在玩我吗?Spent hours at Borders. Went home at 10pm.

Wednesday:
Back at my desk again. Brought my CD pouch. Do you guys even know what's a CD pouch. -_-''

Listening to boybands of the 90s HAHHAHAHA.

Currently listening to the CD of 98 Degrees.

Setting EL mid-year paper. Ok lah. Pretty moderate standard, with a couple of difficult questions to differentiate the better ones from the rest.

VERY distracted though. =/

I think back to a moment when time seemingly stopped... and like a film that is stuck in a rewind and playback mode.... argh. Like a dream... she was so close... What am I talking about?!

Nvm, I'm currently with my greatest love - the school.

Today's an interesting date. Actually for all the dates I remember, there are many interesting dates. But today's date makes me reflect more than usual.

Past days of my life

Hi fellow human BEANS.

Here's a quick update of my very exciting life. -_-

Been very busy / tired, and not even been online much.

So here's what I want to say in no particular order.

NCC
1) NCC camp rocks my socks. Camera in school. I'll upload pics and the guniang videos tomorrow. HAHAH OMG! Damn funny lah!

2) I thought I saw something move at 345am on Friday night at my office.. But I think it's just 'cos I'm tired. =/

3) This year's Part A is very enthusiastic. Part Bs have come a long way and have matured. Part Cs - you can see the leadership waiting to be unleashed. Part Ds: Always so awesome as usual. Will miss you all so much (NO Don'T EMO).

School
1) Panel meeting: Will people change? It's just a simple conclusion:
Next year in February, I'll be still living my own life, doing things which make me happy. You will be collecting results. What mood do you want to be in? How do you want to feel about your life? Sure, you can blame your friends, blame your teachers. For how long? Wake up.

2) There's much stuff to do during this holiday. Yup. Students don't think it's a holiday, with all that homework etc. Teachers too, have their own stuff to do, but at least they can wake up later and rest their throats. Hmm, let's see what I have to do...

  • set English language Mid year paper
  • set Social Studies Mid year paper
  • Clear my desk (which incidentally in 2-3weeks' time IT WILL BE THE COOLEST DESK IN THE WHOLE WORLD. Will update in due time.)
  • catch up with my filing system (which has been a weak link, but admitting it is a start, and trying to improve is the 2nd step)
  • clear emails. It's now 75% full.
  • Improve and design teaching packages
  • Prepare and refine lesson plans for Term 2

Personal

Some of my friends tell me they express shock and disdain that I share my personal life on a blog with my students. I mean, c'mon, I don't really share anything too private. They're just general stuff, really, so don't worry my dear friends! =)

1) I've been really happy. =) People tend to see me as this over-serious person as my facade, but perhaps they don't know me well. I tend to be too nice to students though, and if you are a student and reading this now, do note that I'll be coming down harder on you from the following term onwards. It's for OUR own good, really. =)

2) For some reason, I'm starting to listen to 933 again. But 98.7fm remains my kick-ass favourite. One of the moments I enjoyed during the NCC camp was to sing pop songs on the bus. "YOU CAN HAVE WHATEVER YOU LIKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE".

Gosh. Good times.

----------------

Gotta go out and send my phone for repair. I know, I wrote this few days back, but then I realised the shop was closing so I didn't go. Now I will.

Ciao.

OH ONE LAST THING:
Please behave yourself on the tag board. I don't tolerate spamming, writing anonymously or impersonating others. It has been great so far and I fully appreciate you readers' maturity. Just another friendlyyyyy reminder from me.

Greetings from the OFFICE

Hola!

I'm now typing this in my office!

NCC, NPCC, Life Science Club are taking over the school right now!

Shall go sleep soon. Have to wake at 6am. =x

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

I deserve it.

A sprained left ankle, that's what.

In my earliest post, I stated that I was not feeling very well. For today's NCC, I just wanted to be around and chit chat. However, some students dropped by and offered to play soccer together. I couldn't resist. =/

I didn't even push myself. Suddenly, the ankle just sprained. Argh.

Trust my wolverine-sque recovery skills and get well in 2 days. It's an old injury.

Weak

Feeling weak. =/

Must recover before NCC camp.

Saucony run

Thinking of signing up for the 10k or 15k run.

Excited! Will have something to look forward to.

Feedback

I'm sure most of you have been doing surveys for teachers. Like how they are teaching etc etc...

Today, I've given a class the survey forms.

One of the things a person wrote on how I can improve is.....

"less emo".

HAHAHHAHA!

OK OK point noted.

I'm going out now to repair my ~!@#$%^&*()phone.

The curious case of November Golf

Hi readers! Welcome to the first edition of the latest blog-buster hit:

The curious case of November Golf.

In this story, our protagonist, by the name of November Golf, will live his life with choices from you, the reader!

That's why, every week there will be a new story, and at the end of every juncture, there will be a poll on what our hero must do. The option with the most number of votes naturally dictates the story must continue in that way! Readers will be given a few days to vote. Author will continue the story once the deadline of poll is up, or if sufficient votes have been garnered.

(Author: Oh gosh I'm so bored I can't believe I'm typing this.)

So let's on down with this week's story!

Disclaimer: This is total fiction. Any resemblance to any read characters is totally coincidental.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 1: Genesis

This is the curious story of November Golf.

His surname is Golf because this was a moniker his father earned when he used to be a caddie for one of the best golfers in the region. His father did not actually know how to play golf, but he was an excellent caddie alright. Golf Senior passed away when November was only 5 years old. November did not even know who his mother was. He never saw her. Or rather, she never saw him. Or rather, nobody saw nobody. November was found in a little baby cot outside Golf Senior's home late one night, many many years ago. Golf senior never found out who November's parents were.

His name was November, because as simple as it sounded, Golf Senior found the baby in the month of November. It wasn't a dark and stormy night like what they always show in the movies. It was a still, windless night, along the ghetto streets, but it was a strange ghetto street because there were no dogs barking, no fights, no nothing.

It was just the presence of a little baby.

And hence November Golf was born.

November Golf grew up to be a fine man.

He was highly driven and motivated, and did well in his studies. He went into the best schools, and as he graduated with honours, he was now contemplating to himself:

Hmm. What kinda job should I get myself?

[Readers, YOU DECIDE!]

Vote at the left column.

Conflict

Today I got into a terrible conflict with a student.

=/

Upon reflection, I told him that it was partially my fault.

Then again, what do you expect a teacher to do, get trampled all over?

I hate such days. I'm glad we had a good talk, and hopefully both of us have grown into better people from this experience.

Tonight is the night of no sleep. Lots of stuff to mark. Haha. Only myself to blame of course.

Of words like "SO?"

K, 'so' is a good word I use often. While marking SS scripts, because it's just 2 letters to write, I usually write 'SO?'. Haha.

To the person who tagged the board, but I'm not saying your name, BUT it starts with the letter W, the next lines are for you! =p

So I'm gonna start writing now.

So, with that said, I will continue writing.

Oh, I also started a sentence with "K". I mean what the?? There is no such word as "K"!

Just kidding lah, and I know you're kidding too.

But back to the serious point of discussion, I have already told everyone in the whole world (K not everyone everyone, but as many as I can) that it's perfectly ok to type in Singlish, or to speak in Singlish, but you just have to ask yourself is it the right time and place.

I always ask myself this question:
If other subject teachers can speak in broken English, or in Mother Tongue, why can't an English teacher do likewise?

I think people are stuck in their little boxes. =/

Anyway, I'm always very proud to say that if the time comes for me to make a presentation, I can nail it, and if it's time to write bombastic words without sounding pompous, I can do just as well.

But this is a personal blog (not a teaching blog), and if I have to type in proper English with no Singlish words, then this world will be a sad place.

Like OMG DAMN SAD LAH (k that's very gay.)

I actually love languages. I love the English language. I studied the language when I was in NUS.

I love teaching English. I too love teaching SS. When I'm teaching English, I try to be prim and proper. When I'm teaching SS, well you guys know, I try to talk like any Singaporean would talk.

What I find most ridiculous about this is that students think I can't speak Mandarin. -_- Or when I actually speak in Mandarin they just can't believe it!

Oh yay! Another 5minutes of senseless typing! I like it this way.

Back to marking! No wait, shall go facebook and see who to spam. =x

Monday, March 2, 2009

It's allll so quiet.....sshhh.....ssshhh...

The day started off horribly because I saw many students carrying big bags and many teachers in jeans/track pants/shorts with 'suitcases' preparing to go on holiday. =x

I wanna go to the camp too. =/

BUT! I'm in school because my students are in school too and they want to learn and I want to teach.

Ok, self-condolences at its best.

For CME, we went to comp lab 1 to take the quiz. Wah, some of the questions were so tricky, and definitely questionable as in I'm not sure if the answers given were correct afterall! Worth debating. The class had a WILD TIME POINTING THAT BLUE LITTLE DEVICE lor.

Later on had SS remedial. And back to marking. Nobody's around... Will be worse tomorrow! Half the school will be empty...

If the title strikes you, it means you must be a BJORK fan!

Check it out.

Personally it's an irritating song, but it was famous for awhile. In the mid 90s.

First day of March 2009

Well March 2009 is here, which means, we'll never ever see January and February 2009 ever again.

This is an interesting month. I feel excited about what's gonna hit me, and what my life will be.

I particularly look forward to:

Thursday 5th March - because by then, I'd ( I MUST) have finished all the marking of assignments and keyed in all the marks so that they're ready for report books.

13-15 March - because it's NCC camp and 1) I love NCC, 2) I really love camps. Two more weeks!

Random NCC soccer matches with other secondary schools' NCC units on random dates - because I'm gonna make sure they allow teacher officers to play as well. (C'mon man, I'm not just gonna take a bus there to cheer them on. I want some action!)

Speaking of NCC,
the first awards day rehearsals went pretty well. It was just a familiarisation test for the procedures. Well done NCC, as well as Red Cross, Scouts, Girl Guides! Apologies NPCC as you guys were not informed (must have been a communication breakdown) of the rehearsal.

In March, there is also a burning issue which desperately need my attention, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

1) My nokia 6120 phone which is spoilt. I STILL HAVEN'T SENT IT FOR REPAIR!

Next, there is also a very important thing I must do in March. I promised my popo (paternal grandmother) to visit her during my March holidays, and I must honour my promise. She is 85 years old and lives in Outram.

One term is coming to an end! If you're a graduating student, you better be thinking of the Os / Ns.

Rainy afternoon. =/
