MOE to step up opportunities for more students to take part in sports

SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Education will step up opportunities for more students to take part in sports and it has appointed a team to study ways to enhance sports and aesthetics in schools.

To do this, the ministry will provide better career pathways for sports and aesthetic educators.

390 schools have registered for the Sports Education Programme this financial year.

The programme gave out a total of S$2.3 million to 342 schools last year.

The ministry will also aim to provide every school with an indoor sports hall and targets to equip eighty schools with synthetic turf pitches for soccer and hockey.

Eight new Junior Sports Academies will also be set up to encourage excellence and raise the quality of sports training in Primary 5 and 6 pupils.

The academies will include three new sports - soccer, shooting and fencing - on top of its current six - badminton, netball, swimming, table tennis, wushu and track and field.

Education Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen said: "One clear need is to provide better career pathways for sports and aesthetic educators. Greater specialisation of such officers, both in training and deployment will improve the delivery of such programmes in schools. A body of such professionals can also do much in promoting their craft as well as raise standards in schools, as they share best practices and engage with like-minded professionals overseas." - CNA/vm

Teachers' Day Dinner

Theme: BLING BLING

So that's the theme for the dinner. Haven't figured out what I'll be dressed in. Probably something like this:

Nokia e71

Ok, my mind is decided.

Tonight, after NCC, I'll go buy the awesome E71!

I know it's not the newest, and many people already have it, but I've always wanted it, even though I have my reservations about the tiny qwerty pad and my big fingers.

But then, it's cheaper, at $298 compared to the N86. I've never spent more than $300 for a phone, so I don't think I should break my rules.

Most importantly it's super slim and sleek.

Can be easily put in the pockets.

Sometimes people are like
"Huh why you buy the phone? XYZ already has it. You don't copy lah."

I mean, c'mon, only ONE PERSON IN THE WHOLE WORLD CAN BUY THAT PHONE? Grow up lah.

Cool cool. Looking forward to it.

In the words of my student on the tag board, whose name I WILL NOT SAY, "OMG OMG!"

Midnight...

Finally have finished setting all my papers. Sent them to HODs for vetting.

Alone in my little room... listening to perfect 10...

It's 1225am... shall I start (continue) to mark scripts? Or should I go to sleep...

Tomorrow there's an ncc meeting at 230pm. I am so glad that ncc is working its way up. I'm very proud to see the specialists so dedicated. I've learnt a lot from this cca myself.

For ss, I really hope the sec 3s will take the blogging task seriously. For sec 4s, last stretch, let's sprint till the end. I'm open for consultation. You all know I stay till the sun sets. Just give me a call #324.

For el, sec 1s- It's been extremely fun teaching you guys, but sometimes you all really need to pay attention.

I love teaching =D I hate marking though. Haha. I hope I'm making a positive difference to students, be it in academics, or in attitudes and behaviour. Sometimes the students climb all over me. Ah well. Sometimes I totally lose my voice. Sigh. But at the end of the day, I find it very rewarding, that people have learnt something, either in the subject area or one valuable life lesson.

I take heart in a weaker graduating class (totally no offence, just stating the truth based on results) who has put in so much effort. I can see that they are studying now. We have been through so much the past two years. Conflicts, verbal fights, attitudes, problems, nagging sessions, time wasting exercises, quarrels... and the list goes on. But I can see that they are studying now. Sure, sometimes they still chat A LOT A LOT A LOT, but they are studying now. I really hope they give their best. Hope someone from the class reads this and passes it on. Thank you.

I treat all of you equally. I always see myself as a fair teacher. I don't care what background you have. I don't favour anyone, nor do I purposely put down anyone. I see hope in everyone. Do you see hope in yourself? Work hard, yah.

Eh, I'm not used to writing so much. Everyday it's just work, and maybe facebook, maybe psp (for PES I've now transferred to Athletico Madrid woohoo! Newcastle (tyneside sucks!), maybe gym, and then sleep. Oh, now I PLURK too. All the pictures of the national day concert are with me, and I've not even had the time to choose which ones to upload onto the ne blog, www.neomg.blogspot.com. If you read this, do me a favour, please? Go to the ne site and take the survey. Tell your friends to do so too. As you all know, the NE committee (that's me and other teachers) set up the blog, so we want it to work...). I am also the one who ordered the highlighter-pens, and I'm so glad that most of the students like it. Makes me feel very proud that I've chosen a good national day gift. Next year I'll ask for advice. Do help me in choosing the gift for national day 2010!

One time that struck me on saturday night: while setting papers and watching some dvds at around 9+pm, it suddenly dawned on me that football season has started! I totally forgot! Haha. At least I caught the man utd game. 1-0 is good enough. Haha @ liverpool. But it's still early of course.

Teachers' Day dinner is on Monday 31st August. It's somewhere in town. The theme is BLING BLING! I'm looking for some rapper stuff to wear woohoo. Haha. 77th street like a bit too young for me lah. I need some 50CENT kinda dope. Yeah, and I shall talk like this ya'all~

Well. I'm actually feeling kinda down. Blogging is therapeutic afterall. I am thankful for the students I have. They make me look forward to going to school. I love my form class especially. They make me smile a lot.

K, end of emo speech.

What's the message of the speech?
C: NHS has tendency to be emo.
A: NHS
A: readers of nhs' blog
M: NHS is emo.
I: So that nhs will vent out his frustrations and be less emo.

There. Level 5. 5 marks. Top student thank you thank you.

OH!! Must talk about how 3-5 'fell' in love with me today. We were supposed to start blogs and they kept writing stuff about 'nhs is loved' and that kinda stuff. Really funny. =D Thank you er 3-5, but er, must pay more attention kay.

Alright. Shall go get a drink. Then see what I shall do.
Don't have to physically teach much tomorrow. Mostly it's lab and presentations.

You guys will probably read this Tuesday afternoon/night, so you can check back:

a) Mr Ng was damn tired today(tuesday) > means I must have been marking.
b) Mr Ng is normal > means I have gone to sleep after I get my drink.
c) Mr Ng is tired everyday lah hahaha > means er wait! no lah don't say that ley!
d) WHO CARES! (eh then just alt-f4 pls)

W00t I've written so much, my next update will be in 2010 haha. j/k.

Ok ok.

Nights.

Nah. Don't say I NEVER put picture.

Think it's damn cool.

Ladies and gentlemen

Hi.

I've just spent the past few minutes (or was it more than that?!?!?1?!??!) talking to some of my awesome students outside the staff room.

I have the weirdest students.

They talk to the little red star sticker on the door of the prefects' room.

They talk to imaginary friends.

And, get this,

the fire extinguisher outside the staff room is their friend.

Why? Oh Why do I have such students???!? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy *fades out*
